Canvass Result Options
Before you're ready to use your scripts, there's still one last step! A script is not fully complete until the correct Canvass Results have been set up for each Contact Type. To quickly explain the difference:
Contact Type: How a voter is contacted (e.g. Walk, Phone, Distributed Canvass)
Canvass Result: What the result of that contact is (e.g. Not Home, Moved, Canvassed)
By default, every new script has the Contact Types of Paid ID, Phone, and Walk set up with several preset Canvass Results. However, if you want to include additional options or set up a different Contact Type, you'll need to edit the default options.
Canvass Results in scripts
Canvass Result Options are found in the Scripts page after selecting the specific script you'd like to edit. They'll be on the right side of the page:
From there, you can edit the available Canvass Results for whichever Contact Type you plan to use!
One example would be to add the "Skipped" option under Walk, allowing canvassers to mark the did not get to a house entirely or chose not to attempt it. This can be a useful option to keep track of voters in unfinished turfs.
Lit Dropping
There are several ways that campaigns record lit drops in VAN. We recommend using the Contact Type of Walk or Distributed Canvass and then the Canvass Result "Lit Dropped." Selecting a Contact Type of Walk or Distributed Canvass is both much better for data recording purposes and allows you to mark other options in the event that a canvasser does interact with a voter.
